Jackson Studios embraces the elements of nature by designing beautiful sheep friendly art pieces for you, your home and even your pets!
As a former interior designer, I always placed emphasis on incorporating natural elements in the spaces I designed as there is a beauty and simpliciity in these elements that have a restorative effect of the soul. My felted work fully embodies this principle and embraces the beautiful circle of support between the sheep, their shepherds, myself as the artist and you as the recipient thus enabling this circle of stewardship to continue.
I have taken a keen interest in working almost exclusively with rare and heritage breed sheep and as a member of the Livestock Conservancy rejoice in their motto of "Shave 'Em To Save 'Em". By using wool from these beautiful breeds we are helping to support the shepherds on small family farms who are dedicated to saving these endangered breeds. Because I purchase from the same farms year to year, I have the luxury of obtaining the best quality and oftentimes request my favorite sheep when it is time to shear!
From a design standpoint, I let each fleece "speak" to me and allow the color, lock length, texture, tactile softness (or coarseness) and cleanliness determine what each fleece becomes. I do not mass produce and every single item I make is done by my own hands. I delight in each raw, unprocessed fleece that I unroll on my work table where I let my artists eye have liberty, resulting in a finished product that is uniquely designed and one that you can enjoy for many years.
